West Valley City, UT – May 2026 – For the first time in its 62-year history, The Children’s Center Utah has named its West Valley center in honor of the life and legacy of Florence K. King following an extraordinary investment by Pat and Florence King. The newly named Florence K. King Children’s Mental Health Center will continue its role as Utah’s leading provider of effective infant and early childhood mental health treatment for young children and their families.
The King family has supported The Children’s Center Utah through the King Family Foundation since 2015. This most recent gift, made personally by Pat and Florence King, represents a significant investment in strengthening and expanding access to critical mental health services for Utah’s youngest and most vulnerable children. Following Florence’s recent passing, the naming of the building now stands as a lasting tribute to her compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to children and families across Utah.
Florence King was known for her humility, generosity, and deep love of children—especially those who need extra care and support. She and Pat have built a life grounded in hard work, faith, and a commitment to lifting others, values reflected in their longstanding support of children and families across Utah.
“This investment is deeply meaningful to our organization and to the thousands of children and families we serve,” said Rebecca Dutson, president and CEO of The Children’s Center Utah. “It advances our ability to provide early, evidence-based mental health care and ensures more children have the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive. We are honored that Florence’s legacy will live on through the children and families who will be served here for generations to come.”
The building now bears Florence King’s name, honoring her compassion and enduring commitment to strengthening families. New exterior signage and a permanent portrait within the center recognize the King family’s lasting impact and ensure Florence’s legacy remains woven into the heart of this work.
The Children’s Center Utah provides comprehensive, trauma-informed mental health services for children ages 0–6 and their families and caregivers, addressing challenges at a critical stage of development. Investments like the King family’s gift are essential to expanding access to care and meeting the growing need for early intervention across the state.
“Florence always believed that the greatest impact comes from helping others,” said Pat King. “Supporting The Children’s Center Utah reflects who she was at her core—someone who always chose to give, to care, and to lift those who need it most. I’m grateful to see her legacy honored in this way.”
