Development Director

Summary

The Development Director is responsible to create and implement the development and communications strategy for The Children’s Center. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director is responsible for achieving TCC fundraising goals, engaging sponsors, raising major gifts, overseeing communications needs, managing Board-related committees and supervising development department staff. The Development Director is a key leader in the organization and serves on the Executive Management Team. 

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages the Center’s overall development and communication efforts to raise the annual fundraising operating budget and any special project/capital needs.
  • Creates and implements annual development plan and strategy.
  • Responsible for and oversees identifying, planning for, and securing support from individuals, corporations, foundations, government and other entities.
  • Oversees all fundraising, including: major gifts, planned giving, sponsorship, events (fundraising and non-fundraising), grants, annual fund, and in-kind support.
  • Manages the development team. Organizes development department as necessary to accomplish fundraising goals.
  • Manages and works together with the Board of Trustees Development Committee
  • Oversees production of agency publications including print and video, website, and social media. Maintains media contacts and directs publicity activities including press releases, articles for radio, TV and print media.
  • Plays a key role on the Executive Management Team to help create, implement and accomplish organization strategies and goals.

The Children’s Center is a highly-respected nonprofit organization providing comprehensive mental health care to children and their families across the socioeconomic spectrum. The Children's Center is the recognized local expert in treatment related to childhood trauma for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. We offer a range of services based upon the mental health needs of each child and family, including outpatient family and group therapy, and therapeutic preschool services. The Successful Candidate

  • You are a development professional. You have 7-10 years of progressive experience in development. You are experienced managing a development department and all aspects of fundraising, including events, corporate support, foundation support and individual giving. Experience raising major gifts strongly preferred.
  • You are an innovator. You are not satisfied with the status quo. You seek out best practices and promising practices through research and by consulting with other development experts. You understand continuous improvement and measure your success.
  • You are a skilled communicator. You have excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking; strong overall interpersonal skills required. You are comfortable interacting with volunteers, Board of Trustees, media personnel, community agency officials, government officials and Center staff.
  • You are passionate about our work. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree in Business or Public Administration preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience in development.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or a similar platform is necessary. Strong Microsoft Office skills.
