Dispatcher

Summary

The Children’s Center is seeking a friendly, responsible Dispatcher for our Transportation department. Our Transportation department is comprised of bus drivers who transport preschool aged children to and from their homes and our preschool program. Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, the Dispatcher receives and processes transportation requests from staff and clients, dispatches drivers and assists in the coordination of scheduling routes for clients’ bus transportation needs. Willing to train the right candidate. 

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process transportation requests
  • Dispatch drivers as needed
  • Assist in coordinating the scheduling of routes
  • Work cooperatively with the clinical staff to meet the needs of the children
  • Instruct drivers in policy procedures and schedule changes
  • Fill-in for the Transportation Supervisor for vacation and sick days as needed 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be extremely reliable, responsible and prompt
  • Previous experience in coordinating schedules and/or dispatching desired
  • Ability to operate computer and printer, possessing basic computer skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively using a two-way radio, telephone, and written instructions
  • Must be able to read and understand online maps for routing and scheduling purposes
  • Ability to maintain composure in difficult or stressful situations
  • Team and service focus paramount, as well as the ability to work well independently
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with discretion
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills helpful

Schedule

This is a part-time position. The daily schedule is generally 2-5pm, M-F, with additional hours occasionally necessary to fill in for the Transportation Supervisor.  

Compensation

Starting pay is $12/hour.
